The basics: 1993 was the year of Jessie Hollins Baseball Cards. You won't find another major league card of Hollins in any other year except for in 1991 Bowman.
Card thoughts: It's a nice peek-a-boo pitching motion shot that also shows off the late-season ivy of Wrigley Field in the background.
Backs are important in '93 UD: The bio manages to shrug off Hollins' struggles while comparing him to Lee Smith. But you're looking at his entire major league career in the stats here. He never returned to the majors, missing all of 1993, most of 1994 and all of 1995 with injuries. He retired in '96 but came back for a stint with the Yankees in rookie ball in '97. Hollins died at age 39 in 2009 when he drowned while fishing.
More from '93: "A Whole New World," by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle finally breaks the 16-week hold at No. 1 by Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" this week in 1993. It will be short-lived as a song that underlines everything wrong with the pop charts in 1993 -- "Informer" by Snow -- takes No. 1 the very next week.
