The basics: This is the first Oakland A's card in the set. It's also the first of two Dave Stewart cards. He appears with the Toronto Blue Jays on his base card. Stewart signed as a free agent with Toronto in December of 1992, so this was out of date when it appeared in packs.
Card thoughts: Very nice shot of a smiling Stewart. On many of his cards, he looks grim and kinda scary.
Backs are important in '93 UD: Well, there you go, an example of the intense Stewart plus an explanation on the difference between competitive Stewart and casual Stewart. Many of his cards show that he's all business in the action shots and often smiley in outside-the-lines pix.
More from '93: On this date 30 years ago, Wayne Gretzky scored three goals as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals to reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in team history.
I like how Upper Deck captured his smile and stare on the same card. Gotta admit... I'm more used to the stare.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or does he look more intimidating when he smiles?
ReplyDeleteI don't think that I had ever seen Dave Stewart smiling on a card prior to this.
