59 - RUSTY MEACHAM, ROYALS, P

The basics: This is the second Royals card to show up in the last four cards. Rusty Meacham appeared as both a member of the Tigers and Royals in his 1992 cards. In 1993, it was all Royals.

Card thoughts: This is a nice shot of Meacham finishing his side-arm delivery. The Royals were kind of known for relievers with quirky deliveries at this time with Dan Quisenberry's underhand delivery in the 1980s being the most notable. Meacham's motion is more like Randy Johnson's.

Backs are important in '93 UD: Rusty Meacham was such a pleasant surprise in 1992 that I drafted him as one of my relievers in my fantasy league (we were required to add too many relievers). He went from 64 games in 1992 to 15 in 1993 and his ERA rose from 2.74 to 5.57. Yup, that's my fantasy baseball luck.

More from '93: The movie "The Fugitive," starring Harrison Ford, was in the middle of a six-week run as No. 1 at the box office on this date in 1993. It was the third-highest grossing movie of the year.

  1. Did you ever participate in any of the early Rotisserie leagues?
