The basics: This is the second Phillies card in the last three posts. Lenny Dykstra was at the peak of his Phillies powers at this point. ... In any given year you could count on a few cards showing him on the base paths.
Card thoughts: Look at that dust storm in his wake. I'm not sure what's going on here as he doesn't even appear to be on the infield dirt. Was Dykstra ever nicknamed "Pig Pen"?
Backs are important in '93 UD: The photo of Dykstra calling for time reminds me of his 1991 Topps card ... Dykstra did not play full seasons in 1991 or 1992 due to him crashing his car during the 1991 season and then getting hit in the hand by a pitch on Opening Day in '92. 1993 was a different story as he played in 161 games and was the NL MVP runner-up.
More from '93: The No. 1 nonfiction book in the country on this day in 1993 was "Private Parts" by Howard Stern.
Is that black mess on his shirt from chewing tobacco?

DeleteGreat card.
ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect example of why the Phillies cards in this set make up my favorite team set of all time.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the cloud is coming from his backside :)
