The basics: Tom Candiotti was making his first appearance as a Dodger in several 1993 sets. He appeared with the Dodgers in a few 1992 update sets, as well as sets issued later in the year such as Pinnacle, Ultra and Leaf.
Card thoughts: Looks like a congratulatory post-game greeting from catcher Mike Scioscia after a victory. I detect some glum Phillies seated in the dugout, but looking at the 1992 game log, there doesn't seem to be a match.
It's interesting how the "D" in Upper Deck is not hidden behind the players' heads like the other letters.
Backs are important in '93 UD: Unlike Topps, Upper Deck didn't create two different lines when players played for two teams in the same year. So you have interesting abbreviations sometimes, such as "IND/BJY".
More from '93: On this date in 1993, the New England Patriots made Drew Bledsoe the first pick in the NFL Draft.
Solid photo on the front. I looked up his 1992 game logs and didn't see any situations either. Maybe someone out there has ideas behind which game this was from.
ReplyDeleteLooking at his 1992 game logs, Candiotti threw a 1-0 complete game shutout against the Reds on June 7, 1992 - that might explain the red uniforms in the opposing dugout and where he might finish the game to celebrate with his catcher.
ReplyDeleteMust be it. The gray uniforms in the dugout look blue to me, which is why I thought it might be Phillies.
DeleteThe way they did the lettering on this one is interesting, a few behind one guys head, and one in front of another's.
