104 - SID BREAM, BRAVES, 1B

The basics: This is Sid Bream's only card in the 1993 Upper Deck set. He appears in most of the '93 sets and is also shown batting in Stadium Club, Bowman and Score.

Card thoughts: Bream is connecting against the Mets. ... This card arrives immediately after a card of the Pirates' Jay Bell. The Braves and Pirates famously played in the NLCS the postseason before this set came out and ex-Pirate Bream scored the winning run on Francisco Cabrera's hit. I wonder if Upper Deck intentionally put these cards back to back? They were known for sneaky little things like that.

Backs are important in '93 UD: That's a nice candid shot of Bream.

More from '93: Spuds Mackenzie, the famed bull terrier that starred in Bud Light commercials during the late 1980s, died on this date in 1993 from kidney failure. She (yes, "she") was 9 years old.

  1. If I recall correctly, Bream is the slowest player in the Super Nintendo game Ken Griffey Jr Presents Major League Baseball. Probably because during that NLCS game he looked like he was running in slow motion.

  2. I wonder if there are any trading cards of Spuds. If not... seems like a missed opportunity by Anheuser-Busch.
