110 - BRIAN HARPER, TWINS, C

The basics: 1993 was just about peak for Brian Harper cards. He's got some decent catching shots in '93 and his famed cell phone shot in SP.

Card thoughts: It's interesting with the way the catcher's facemask bar lands, it looks like Harper has no eyes. Also, there's nothing like that antiquated facemask to show that 1993 was actually a long time ago.

Backs are important in '93 UD: Hey, there's Harper's face! ... Harper's best seasons were in 1992 and 1993. Then he seemed to drop off the face of the earth after he signed as a free agent with the Brewers going into 1994. His career was over by '95. Perhaps just an example of peaking late as Harper was 35 in '94.

More from '93: On this date in 1993, actor Fred Gwynne -- well-known for being Herman Munster but also played several other familiar movie and TV characters -- died at age 66.

Comments

  1. Harper had some solid stats on the back of his 93UD card. I remember him for his years with the Twins, but was surprised to see he had two separate stints with the A's.

  2. Agree, Fuji - I don't remember Harper on the A's, Tigers, or Cards at all. Just the Twins and the Pirates.

  3. It looks like a completely different guy on the back.
