The basics: This is Mitch Williams' only card in the 1993 Upper Deck set. This is also the seventh straight card featured that shows a fielding shot.
Card thoughts: Another one of the distinctive cards in 1993 Upper Deck, it ranks up there among the more unusual cards of a pitcher. How many other cards are there of a pitcher in action wearing a toque?
We also get a John Kruk cameo, which is nice since his card is another 130 cards away.
Backs are important in '93 UD: Another interesting photo with Williams wearing an old-time Philadelphia uniform. Perhaps a Negro League tribute to the Philadelphia Stars? Also, Budweiser likes this photo choice.
More from '93: This week in 1993, the Tears For Fears single "Break It Down Again" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, one of their better later songs.
A. Had to look up the word "toque". Hadn't heard that word before.
ReplyDeleteB. I think Elemental was the last Tears For Fears CD I ever purchased.
Looks like a Wally Backman cameo and not John Kruk.
ReplyDeleteThe merging of the legs sure makes for a weird photo.
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree with Laurens.
ReplyDeleteI thought of Backman but he looked a little pudgy. Not as slim as his Met days I guess.
ReplyDeleteI looked too quickly at his hat on the back and wondered why he was in a Pirates uniform. Once I saw the jersey it made better sense.
