130 - CHUCK MC ELROY, CUBS, P

The basics: Here is Chuck McElroy's lone card in the 1993 Upper Deck set. It's the second Cubs card in the last four cards as Sammy Sosa just appeared at No. 127.

Card thoughts: I recall McElroy being a bit of a novelty as a glasses-wearing pitcher, as that seemed to be more of an '80s thing (Henke, Hume, McMurtry). Those huge frames were very noticeable.

Backs are important in '93 UD: 1992 was one of McElroy's best seasons in his 13-year career. He appeared in his most games except for in 1998 with the Rockies (78). He also struck out the second-most batters in his career and saved the most games.

More from '93: On this date in 1993, "Demolition Man," starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and Sandra Bullock, was the No. 1 movie in the country.

  1. Never saw Demolition Man... but I wanted to. After clicking that link and watching the preview, I'm glad I didn't. It's not really my kind of movie.

  2. I liked Demolition Man quite a bit as a kid/teen, but it's been at least twenty years since I last saw it, so I have no idea whether I'd still enjoy it or not.
