The basics: This is the first of three cards featuring Delino DeShields in the 1993 Upper Deck set. He also is in the Iooss Collection insert set.
Card thoughts: Good ol' flip-down shades. I think these shades were starting to be phased out for wrap-around sunglasses in the mid-'90s.
Backs are important in '93 UD: The back photo could have been taken during the same game as the front picture. It's still very sunny, the flip-downs are flipped up and DeShields is wearing a road uniform in both photos.
DeShields was coming off his best season to date when this card was released. He garnered MVP votes in 1992.
More from '93: Whitney Houston's cover of the Chaka Khan song, "I'm Every Woman" was released on this date in 1993. A song from "The Bodyguard" soundtrack, Houston's song would peak at No. 4 on March 6, 1993.
I'd love to own one of these gray road Expos jerseys. One of my favorites from that era.
