149 - PAT BORDERS, BLUE JAYS, C

The basics: Pat Borders appears in the 1993 Upper Deck set for the first and only time. Card companies focused on fielding shots for Borders' cards in '93, and the only 1993 cards in which he is batting are for Bowman, Pacific and O-Pee-Chee (also a special Donruss set).

Card thoughts: Play at the plate! Dirt flying! My guess on the slider and opponent is Craig Grebeck of the White Sox (he wore 14 with the White Sox). But I could be completely wrong. Based on my uncertainty, I didn't try to look up the play/result. ... OK, that's a lie, I tried and gave up and now I'm asking someone out there with more time than me to figure it out.

Backs are important in '93 UD: That is an intense look from Borders staring toward the catcher. You can see that the catcher has the ball in his hand.

Border was in the heart of his status as full-time catcher for the Blue Jays, who were a World Series juggernaut at this time. His playing time tailed off after 1994, but he still lasted in the majors through 2005!

More from '93: The highest-debuting movie this week in 1993 (#6) was the romantic drama "Untamed Heart," starring Christian Slater and Marisa Tomei.

    1. I agree, that's not Comiskey or even Skydome.

  2. A. That's impressive that Borders played up until 2005. I remember him with the Blue Jays in the late 80's to mid 90's, but nothing after that.

    B. I saw Untamed Heart. Just watched the trailer on YT to confirm. It had to be a date night, because I can't imagine any of my college buddies being interested in seeing that movie.
