159 - STEVE BUECHELE, CUBS, 3B

 "
The basics: Steve Buechele's first-and-only card in the 1993 "Uppe Deck" set.

Card thoughts: A simple shot of Buechele flipping the ball from third base in Wrigley Field. Maybe just warming up. If you want to see him doing basically the same thing but with a little more zip, check out his 1993 SP card.

Backs are important in '93 UD: Buechele enjoying a light moment with an unidentified team member. I have no guesses here.

Buechele split the 1992 season between the Pirates and Cubs. He was acquired by Chicago in July of 1992 for pitcher Danny Jackson. Buechele, who spent most of his career with the Rangers, had one of his better seasons in 1993 with Chicago.

More from '93: On this date in 1993, Carlos Baerga became the first player to hit home runs from both sides of the plate in the same inning. It came in the seventh inning of the Cleveland Indians' 15-5 victory over the New York Yankees in Cleveland.

  1. Never opened any 1993 SP, but I've gotta say... I like their photo of Buechele more than the Upper Deck photo.

  2. Looks like Mark Grace to me, but he is the same height as Buechele so I could be wrong.
