The basics: Darren Lewis makes his lone appearance in the 1993 Upper Deck set. This is the fourth Giants card in the last 22 cards in the set and the third in the last 13.
Card thoughts: Lewis was just breaking out as speedster at this time so a play on the bases is appropriate. A lot of his cards are similar to this.
Lewis was also known as a fine fielder, setting a recorder for the most consecutive errorless games by an outfielder in 1994 with 392. That was broken in 2015 by the Orioles' Nick Markakis and has since been broken again by Robbie Grossman (2022).
More from '93: On this date in 1993, the Marlins acquired Gary Sheffield, and pitcher Rich Rodriguez, from the Padres in exchange for pitcher Trevor Hoffman and minor leaguers Andres Berumen and Jose Martinez. The Marlins would sign Sheffield to a four-year extension three months later and the trade would be a key component in the Marlins' eventual World Series title in 1997.
Was watching the Giants game yesterday or the day before... and saw two errors (by outfielders) within the first few innings. 392 errorless games is pretty darn impressive.
