The basics: With this card Kirt Manwaring makes his only action-packed appearance in the 1993 Upper Deck set.
Also, this is the sixth Giants card in the last 36 cards, quite a run.
Card thoughts: It would not be a Kirt Manwaring card without at least a couple flying objects. Heck, even the umpire out of the frame seems to have left his feet!
Backs are important in '93 UD: With so many action shots of Manwaring catching, Upper Deck wisely chose a picture of Manwaring on the base paths for the back. But it's still excitement at home plate! The catcher is Gary Carter, and look, it's another stray catcher's mask!
Manwaring was just entering the most productive portion of his career in 1992. He would appear in a career-high 130 games in 1993 and win his only Gold Glove.
More from '93: On this date in 1993, the Great Flood of 1993, which affected the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, reached its peak. The Mississippi near St. Louis crested at 20 feet above sea level and a levee broke near Columbia, Illinois, flooding the town of Valmeyer, which had to be rebuilt.
This is such a great card and a perfect example of why this set is so fantastic.
ReplyDeleteTwo solid action shots. Totally forgot that Carter went back to Montreal at the end of his career.
ReplyDeleteNothing to add beyond what Jeff B said. Just a fantastic card.
