The basics: The first of two appearances by Billy Ripken in the 1993 Upper Deck set. He'll show up with his new team much later.
Card thoughts: A nice turning-two shot with Ripken releasing the throw as he leaps over A's runner Dan Howitt. This card also serves as Howitt's appearance in the set as he doesn't have a card of his own.
Backs are important in '93 UD: It's a cameo on each side of the card! Ripken is exchanging high-fives with teammate Randy Milligan. Milligan will show up on his own card within the next 50 cards.
1992 was Ripken's last season with the Orioles and also his last season playing in at least 100 games.
More from '93: Billy Joel released the album "River of Dreams" on this date in 1993. It was his 12th album and the last one he'd release of pop music (He released a classical music album in 2001).
