200 - BROOK JACOBY, INDIANS, 3B

The basics: This is a "final tribute" card for Brook Jacoby. His 1992 season was his last in the majors. He went to Japan for the 1993 season, playing in 18 games before retiring.

Card thoughts: Jacoby is placing the tag on a sliding Andre Dawson of the Cubs. It's easy to determine that this is a spring training photo because interleague play was not a thing in the early 1990s. This is also Dawson's first appearance in the '93 Upper Deck set. He'll show up several more times.

Backs are important in '93 UD: Quite cheeky of Upper Deck to show a photo of Jacoby being rung up (by an animated umpire) on his final card. Great photo though.

More from '93: On this date in 1993, free agent Will Clark signed a deal with the Texas Rangers after playing with the San Francisco Giants for eight years.

Comments

  1. A. Nice umpire shot on the back. I remember treasuring Jacoby's 84D rookie card and thinking he was going to be a superstar.

    B. Clark leaving for Texas was a sad day for Bay Area sports fans.

  2. I have that card signed by Jacoby and was wondering if I can send it to Dawson for a dual auto, where he charged a small fee [$10] to usually sign.

  3. I guess if one was motivated enough you could say what day games in Cleveland Jacoby got thrown out at third. Probably not that many.
