205 - MANUEL LEE, BLUE JAYS, SS

The basics: Blue Jays shortstop Manuel Lee leaps into the '93 Upper Deck set for his only appearance. Lee was at the height -- ha! -- of his career in terms of workload in 1992, appearing in more than 120 games for the second straight year.

Card thoughts: I like how Lee's throwing hand has created the word "Upp," which is fitting for this card. Lee is kicking up some dirt. The white flecks all over this card is just card wear, I believe.

Backs are important in '93 UD: Lee appears to have a Royals base runner in a rundown. My first thought is Brian McRae, who wore No. 56.

Lee's cards in 1993 all read "Manuel Lee". It was a slow change-over from the first half of his career in which all of them listed him as "Manny" (and I still can hear Keith Olbermann's "Man-o-man-o-Manny Lee" reference). In 1992, suddenly he was "Manuel" except for in Fleer and Score.

More from '93: On this date in 1993, the San Diego Chargers beat the Miami Dolphins 45-20 on Monday Night Football. It avenged a 31-0 loss for the Chargers against the Dolphins on Jan. 10 during the previous season's playoffs. It also prevented the Dolphins from clinching a playoff spot. Miami, which was 9-2 on Nov. 25, lost their final five games and missed the postseason.
