218 - CORY SNYDER, GIANTS, OF

The basics: Cory Snyder appears for the first time in the 1993 Upper Deck set. He has two cards in the set with the other one showing him with the team that is the Giants' rival.

Card thoughts; Snyder casually pulls in a deep fly ball at the Wrigley Field wall -- what is more casual than blowing a bubble while fielding a fly ball? He appears to be in front of a door in the wall.

Backs are important in '93 UD: Snyder beats the tag! ... Kudos to Upper Deck for not relying on the standard hitting shot for Snyder. Instead we get one picture of him fielding and one of him on the bases.

Snyder spent one season with the Giants, and he won National League Player of the Month honors in June 1992.

More from '93: Saturday Night Live comedian Sarah Sherman was born on this date in 1993.

Comments

  1. Looking at the back of the card: Someone needs to start a frankenset of players looking like they are break dancing.

  2. From the back of his cards, I remember Snyder as a ‘bad player’ who did not live up to the promise, but he was decent in the last couple of years as more of a semi-regular than an every day guy.

  3. I remember coveting his 1987 Topps All-Star Rookie Cup card.

  4. Bubble and ivy. Nice combination.
