223 - JOE CARTER, BLUE JAYS, OF

The basics: The third and already final card showing Joe Carter in the 1993 Upper Deck set. It's like UD knew he was going to have an epic year in 1993 (not that he wasn't already a star).

Card thoughts: Carter appears to be urging a teammate on the bases to take third base. We can't see what the catcher is doing but my guess is he is chasing a wild pitch/passed ball.

I like to read the Upper Deck heading on this card as "You-per Deck".

Backs are important in '93 UD: A second straight smiling close-up on the back.

Between 1986 and 1997, Carter drove in at least 100 runs every year except for two, and one of those was 1988 when he had 98.

More from '93: On this date in 1993, martial artist and actor Brandon Lee, the son of Bruce Lee, was accidentally shot during filming of a scene in the movie of "The Crow" and died at the hospital at age 28.
