239 - CHILI DAVIS, TWINS, DH

The basics: The first of two cards of Chili Davis in the 1993 Upper Deck set. He'll show up much later with a different team. Davis was a free agent in the 1992 offseason after his second year with the Twins.

This is the third card with the designated hitter position in the set. The first two were George Brett (#56) and Harold Baines (#81).

Card thoughts: A mighty pleasing card with a smiling Davis posed with bat on his shoulder in the dugout in front of the helmet rack. Davis is also advertising the maker of his bat.

Backs are important in '93 UD: I like the peak toward the batter as Davis takes off for second base. It's almost like he's looking at the card viewer. The photo on the front of his second card in the set is very similar to this.

Davis' 1991 season was a revelation as he set a then-career high for home runs in a season and received some MVP votes. He wasn't quite as successful in '92.

More from '93: The famed Lorena Bobbitt incident happened on this date in 1993. No need to get into gory details here, the wikipedia page is there for you.
