The basics: Jeff King makes his only appearance in the '93 Upper Deck set after a bounce-back season in 1992. He played in 130 games after managing just 33 games in 1991 due to chronic back problems.
Card thoughts: Cameo alert! King looks to be in the process of turning two as the Cubs' Ryne Sandberg slides into second.
Backs are important in '93 UD: Another fielding shot for King. This time he appears to be playing third.
Barry Bonds led the Pirates in home runs in 1992 with 34, so quite a drop-off to get to King's 14 in second place. King would have his best season in 1993, recording 180 hits but he'd still have just nine home runs. He wasn't really a home run hitter until late in his career.
More from '93: On this date in 1993, the White Sox released Carlton Fisk, marking the end of his 24-year career.
