241 - DEAN PALMER, RANGERS, 3B

The basics: Dean Palmer shows up for the first time in the 1993 Upper Deck set after hitting more than 20 home runs for the first time in his career. He'd do it again seven more times.

Palmer will appear again in one of the subsets. Also, this is the first Rangers card since Nolan Ryan back at card #155.

Card thoughts: The ball looks super-tiny in this photo for some reason.

Backs are important in '93 UD: I know I'm not supposed to care about batting average but those are some pretty dire averages to start his career. He'd recover to become a lifetime .251 hitter.

Palmer was one of my fantasy league players back in 1995. Naturally he was injured for most of the year.

More from '93: On this date in 1993, Steffi Graf won her third straight Wimbledon women's singles title by defeating Jana Novotna 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, 6-4.
