The basics: Barry Larkin shows up for the first time in the '93 Upper Deck set after another standout season. In his other card in the set he joins some of his teammates.
Card thoughts: This card has always stood out to me, maybe it's because you don't often see a player kneeling on a base in a card photo. I'm guessing Larkin slid head-first and is getting up, possibly checking his third-base coach if that's second base. Also, an all-dirt background always gives a card a boost.
Backs are important in '93 UD: That is not keeping your eye on the ball, Mr. Larkin. Or maybe he flubbed it and is picking it up.
Larkin hit .300 for the fourth straight season in 1992 after signing a 5-year, $125 million contract in the offseason. He would stretch that streak to five straight seasons in 1993.
More from '93: This week in 1993, the romantic/crime movie "Poetic Justice," starring Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur, debuted at No. 2 at the U.S. box office.
