251 - DAN GLADDEN, TIGERS, OF

The basics: Dan Gladden appears with the Tigers after his first year in Detroit. He signed as a free agent after five previous seasons with the Twins in which he won two World Series titles.

Card thoughts: Gladden is wearing a retro Tigers uniform from the early 1930s, they wore pinstripe uniforms in the '30s from 1931-33. The orange block "D" was worn in 1931 and 1933 the best I can determine, so I don't know exactly which uniform the Tigers are featuring.

Backs are important in '93 UD: Gladden looks a bit like a 1970s wild man throwing batting practice here.

Gladden was playing his final season in the majors when this card was released. He'd play a year in Japan in 1994.

More from '93: On this date in 1993, George Brett stole his 200th career base (his 6th of the season) to become just the third player to have 3,000 career hits, 300 home runs and 200 stolen bases, following  Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. Dave Winfield and Alex Rodriguez have since joined the club.
