61 - TIM TEUFEL, PADRES, IF

The basics: This is the second Padres card in three cards, not long after we saw the second Royals card in three cards. Upper Deck isn't exactly spacing out the teams like Topps did.

Also this is the first horizontal card that is not one of the subset cards, and the first card with the catch-all "infield" abbreviation.

Card thoughts: I like the green expanse and Tim Teufel's closed-mouth concentration. Upper Deck also knows how important it is to get the ball in the photo.

Backs are important in '93 UD: I think this is Teufel being greeted after crossing the plate with one of his six home runs in 1992. He did have a two-home run game against the Phillies on July 11, 1992 in San Diego and Darren Daulton was the Phillies catcher that game.

Teufel was entering his final Major League season in 1993, but he'd have plenty of 1994 cards.

More from '93: On this date in 1993, Dave Winfield became the 19th player to reach 3,000 hits when he singled for the Twins off of the A's Dennis Eckersley.

  1. I don't remember him at all. Not a bad looking card though.
