The basics: This is Geno Petralli's only card in the '93 UD set. In some unintentional good timing, I'm posting this on Nolan Ryan's 77th birthday. One of Petralli's most notable MLB moments was catching Ryan's 300th win.
Card thoughts: Pretty great shot of Petralli looking to catch a pop-up. It'd be cool if they cropped the image a litle differently so that it looked like Petralli was catching the Upper Deck "D," but that might have cropped him at the kneecaps, which is a photo no-no.
Backs are important in '93 UD: That might be the most action-packed back photo yet in this set rundown.
More from '93: Super Bowl XXVII took place on this date in 1993. The Cowboys defeated the Bills, 52-17, for the Bills' third straight Super Bowl loss. That was an unpleasant day in the night owl home.
Watching the Cowboys beat the Bills was unpleasant for me as well. That run from 1988 to 1995 where the Cowboys and 49ers won six of eight Super Bowls was not a very fun run.
ReplyDeleteIs that the rule of thumb with photography, no cropping at the kneecaps? And if so, is that just in the newspaper business, or does it apply to all facets of photography?
ReplyDeleteI'm not a photographer so I don't know generally, but I think it's probably a basic rule of cropping photos -- no cropping at the joints basically, ankles, knees, waist, elbows, wrists -- unless you're going for a specific look, I guess.
