91 - RAFAEL BELLIARD, BRAVES, SS

The basics: This is the second straight Braves card in the set, the first time this has happened since the individual solo cards started appearing in the set. It's also the second straight horizontal card, the first time since cards 53 and 54.

Card thoughts: From his knees! The vast majority of Rafael Belliard's 1993 cards are fielding shots. There are a couple of running shots. There are no shots with him with a bat. Probably not a coincidence. He was in the majors for his fielding.

Backs are important in '93 UD: My guess on the player sliding into second is the Giants' Robby Thompson. Going by the color of the arm stripes and what I can make out of his last name on the back of his jersey. No idea if he was a head-first slider.

More from '93: Helen Hayes, the first woman to win an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Tony award, died on this date in 1993 at age 92.

  1. Helen Hayes was a wonderful actress. And I'm sure that there's others out there, but this is the first card I can remember that shows a player throwing from his knees.
