The basics: This is Pete Harnisch's lone card in the 1993 Upper Deck set. He had a slight down year in 1992 after his All-Star season of 1991 but was enjoying one of his best seasons in 1993. He led the NL in shutouts in '93 with four.
Also, you guys, this is the first time the Astros show up in the set.
Card thoughts: A fairly standard photo, I don't have a lot to say about it.
Backs are important in '93 UD: Pitcher hitting! Pitcher hitting! Harnisch went 11-for-67 at the plate in 1992 (.164) with five doubles and eight RBIs.
More from '93: New York Rangers veteran center Mika Zibanejad (he has been on the team for eight years, where does the time go?) was born on this date in 1993.
Pete was born a couple of towns over from me, although a few years prior. Mr. Harnisch was one of Commack's most prominent claims-to-fame (claim-to-fames?).
ReplyDeleteDang. Astros fans sure had to wait a long time.
ReplyDeleteI get that the Astros weren't a team that a lot of people cared about back in 1993, but still, it's hard to believe that it took this long for one to show up in the set.
