The basics: The first checklist in the set that isn't related to a subset. For 1993, Upper Deck put a twist on the traditional run-of-the-mill checklist by featuring an individual star player behind the words and numbers on both the front and the back. For the first 100 cards, Frank Thomas is the checklist representative. It's Thomas' second card in the set so far, but his true solo card won't arrive for a long time.
Card thoughts: Interesting idea, though I always found the photo hard to read on these. Also, Thomas' arm overlaps the Upper Deck name, making it read "Up Deck".
Backs are important in '93 UD: Here, Frank Thomas is batting, interesting to show the fielding shot on the front instead of the batting shot.
Unlike Topps checklists from this era, Upper Deck doesn't provide the meta moment of checking off the checklist on the checklist card. There is no check box for card No. 105.
More from '93: On this date in 1993, Julie Krone became the first female jockey to win a Triple Crown race, riding Colonial Affair to the Belmont Stakes win. She remains the only female jockey with a Triple crown victory.
Never really gave much thought to these checklists, but now that I'm looking at it... they aren't bad. You can see the numbers and the players, which is the most important thing on a checklist. The photos of Thomas are just an added bonus.
