111 - BRADY ANDERSON, ORIOLES, OF

The basics: This is Brady Anderson's second card in the '93 Upper Deck set as he shared one with Cal Ripken Jr. in the Teammates subset.

Card thoughts: This is one of the classic photos in this set. It doesn't look good for the Orioles here as Anderson appears to be watching a home run flying beyond him, but that's some nice wall-climbing. UD probably couldn't resist using this shot as an Oriole is next to the Orioles logo on the wall.

I don't know what stadium this is but it does remind me of Anaheim Stadium back when they had all those red seats. Here's a photo of the stadium in 1991:

It was tough to pick out the Orioles logo on the outfield wall, but those red seats on the left look like definite background potential in Anderson's card. Or this isn't the stadium in the Anderson shot at all! I don't have all day to sleuth!

Backs are important in '93 UD: 1992 was a breakthrough season for Anderson as he set career highs in just about every category as it was his first full year as a starter. The photo of Anderson running the bases is appropriate as Anderson's 52 stolen bases would be a career best and was third in the American League in 1992.

The 21 home runs would be his best until 1996 when he'd hit 50 out of the blue.

More from '93: One of three movies to debut in the top 10 this week in 1993 was Pauly Shore's second lead role in "Son-In-Law". This is what MTV foisted on the public in the '90s.

  1. I agree, that looks like Anaheim Stadium. A quick check on Baseball-Reference - he played in two day games there in '92, was the LF in both games, and in both games and Angel hit a home run to left.

  2. If you ever ranked every card in this set, I'm guessing this would land in the Top 20. What a great looking card. I actually think the empty seats adds character to it.

  3. I must be in the minority, because I feel like you've already shown at least 30-40 cards with better looking photos than this.
