121 - HAL MORRIS, REDS, 1B

The basics: The first of two cards of Hal Morris in this set. The second one won't show up for a long time.

Card thoughts: One of those fun cards where you get to see each fan's state of mind as a ballplayer comes charging into the stands. I wonder if Morris caught the "D" in Upper Deck?

Also, I know this isn't right but that looks like a furry woodchuck on the fence rail.

Backs are important in '93 UD: A nice, neat shot of Morris bolting from the box. It looks unnatural that the catcher -- not even a glove -- is anywhere to be seen.

Morris missed a decent amount of the 1992 season when he was hit in the wrist by a pitch during April of that year. He missed more time in 1993 when he separated a shoulder after charging the mound during a spring training game. He'd bounce back big in 1994, but the strike cut short what could have been his best season.

More from '93:
Hervé Villechaize, the man who played "Tattoo" on the ABC series "Fantasy Island," died at age 50 on this date in 1993.

  1. That "furry woodchuck" is someone's beard?!? Lol, this is why I don't look too closely at my cards.

    1. It's the hair on the person in the dark shirt crouching in the front row, but now that you made the beard connection, I can't unsee it!

  2. Man I'd love to one day be featured on a baseball card... but hopefully the baseball card gods don't have me crouching in fear like the sky is falling.

  3. For his sake, I sure hope he didn't catch the "D" :)
