140 - JERALD CLARK, PADRES, OF

The basics: The first of two Jerald Clark cards in the '93 Upper Deck set. He was an expansion draft choice of the Colorado Rockies so he appears as a Rockie later in the set.

Card thoughts: Jerald Clark seems to be eyeing the "D" in Upper Deck warily. Also it's interesting that each player in this photo is wearing pinstripes. Are those the legs of a player on the opposing team or a teammate? Would both teams be wearing pinstripes?

Clark is displaying the All-Star Game patch for the 1992 ASG, which was held in San Diego.

Backs are important in '93 UD: Wow you can really tell that Clark is 6-foot-4 in this photo.

Clark was coming off his best season to date when this card was released. He'd enjoy an even nicer season in 1993 in Colorado. But he would play just one more season, in 1995 for Minnesota.

More from '93: Uh ... Donald Trump married Marla Maples on this date in 1993. Among the guests were Rosie O'Donnell and O.J. Simpson.

  1. I think the other pair of pinstriped legs belong to a Padres base coach. The pants look white.
