The basics: Dave Fleming was all over baseball cards in 1993 after finishing third in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 1992. But he appears just the once in the '93 Upper Deck set.
Card thoughts: Fleming is delivering a pitch with a three-quarters arm motion, which he was known to do.
Also the positioning of Fleming's hat makes "Upper Deck" read "Uppes Deck".
Backs are important in '93 UD: Fleming is warming up on the sidelines in Oakland, Calif., before what I am assuming is a day game against the Oakland A's. The clues are right there behind Fleming with A's on the field and the clock reading "11:43".
There's a green-and-gold sign to the right that advertises A's tickets or something related to the A's. Also note the GTE sign to the right of that. GTE was a telephone/electronics company that eventually became Verizon.
This is another player in this set who peaked in 1992. Fleming would do pretty good in 1993, too, but eventually arm problems caught up to him and his last year was 1995.
More from '93: The top-debuting movies this week in 1993 in the U.S. were "Tombstone" (#3), "Grumpy Old Men" (#6) and "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" (#12).
