The basics: This is the second of Nolan Ryan's cards in the 1993 Upper Deck set. During the post on his first card, I mentioned that he would appear two more times in the set, but I think I must have been confused by the many Ryan insert cards. This is his last appearance in the base set.
Card thoughts: Ryan took out a "P" on that pitch.
Backs are important in '93 UD: Wow, look at that sky shot. Not a single cloud. I don't know exactly what's going on in this photo, there seems to be some people gathered off to the left side as if there's a pregame ceremony (the stands are pretty empty).
Also, those stat totals are nice to ponder. This was the last year that cards were issued while Ryan's career was still in progress. His last year was 1993. There were plenty of tribute cards of him in 1994, though. Actually there are a number in 1993, too.
More from '93: On this date in 1993, comedian Eddie Murphy married model Nicole Mitchell. They were divorced in 2006.
Anyone else look at that card and have the urge to duck?
ReplyDeleteCrazy to think that Nolan was over 40 when he struck out 301 in 1989.
