176 - GREGG JEFFERIES, ROYALS, 3B

The basics: This is the second of four Gregg Jefferies cards in the 1993 Upper Deck set. During his first appearance I erred in writing he would appear two more times. He's actually appearing three more times, including this post.

Card thoughts: Jefferies is charging to the third base bag in an apparent race to make the force out. It also looks very hot there in Kansas City, with the shadow and Jefferies' flip-up shades. Or maybe I'm projecting as I'm writing this while it's 86 degrees.

Backs are important in '93 UD: Jefferies appears to be having a very good time during his one year with the Royals. I'm guessing this photo is from spring training, given the sleeves Jefferies is displaying.

Jefferies, once considered "the future of the Mets," came to the Royals with Kevin McReynolds in the deal that sent Bret Saberhagen and Bill Pecota to New York. Then just over a year later, Jefferies was sent to the Cardinals for Felix Jose and Craig Wilson. Jefferies' other two cards in this set are with the Cardinals.

More from '93: I just covered this player's card three posts ago, but on this date in 1993, the Giants' Darren Lewis set a record for consecutive errorless games by an outfielder with his 267th straight appearance without a miscue, breaking a mark by Don Demeter.

  1. Wow. Upper Deck hooked up Jefferies' collectors. Not sure if you've mentioned it before, but I'm curious what player made the most appearances on the checklist. Can't imagine it's much higher than Jefferies' four.
