215 - PAT KELLY, YANKEES, 2B

The basics: Pat Kelly appears in the set after playing in more than 100 games for the first time in his career. He would be the Yankees' starting second baseman for four seasons.

Card thoughts: An acrobatic leap by Kelly as he clears Angels runner Rene Gonzales at Anaheim Stadium. I wrote during the post on the Rene Gonzales card that it was his only appearance in the '93 Upper Deck set. Clearly that isn't true.

Also, four of the last five cards of second basemen in this set have shown a play at second base, including three with a leaping second baseman. All five have shown the player in the field.

Backs are important in '93 UD: The blurb writer is working very hard to make Kelly's 1992 season sound impressive. Kelly would actually have a more notably better season in 1993.

More from '93: Memphis Grizzlies guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was born on this date in 1993.
