The basics: This is the third, and last, time that Ruben Sierra appears in the 1993 Upper Deck set. He showed up on the weird Bash Brothers card and he also likely made a cameo with his old team, the Rangers, on Walt Weiss' card.
Card thoughts: That is the definition of a "majestic swing."
Backs are important in '93 UD: Not crazy about fielding shots where the player's face is obscured, but I don't know how much Upper Deck had to work with for photos as Sierra played in just 27 games for the A's in 1992 after the big Jose Canseco trade.
Sierra's first full season with the A's in 1993 was decent for home runs, RBIs and stolen bases, but his average, on-base percentage and OPS went way down and his time with the A's was disappointing.
More from '93: On this date in 1993, Sears ended its catalog sales department and stopped producing its famed Sears catalogue that was a family staple for more than 100 years.
Sierra did have a majestic swing. I know it's unusual but he was one of my favorite Yankees. Every at-bat was exciting.
ReplyDeleteA. Normally I'm not a fan of zoomed in shots... but Upper Deck at least did a decent job with this crop job. I wonder what the story is behind him wearing #3 on his wristbands.
ReplyDeleteB. I loved flipping through those Sears catalogs during the holidays.
